BIO
Woodworking, in one form or another, has been an important part of my life since the age of
four when I accidentally discovered my father making a small wooden wagon for my Christmas present.
Today, my emphasis is on "turning," but it has not always been. Over six decades ago a childhood
chum received a lathe from his plumber father for Christmas. I was duly impressed and jealous. That
could never happen to me, I thought. Years later, I gave my son, John a lathe for Christmas.
That began our venture in turning wood. It has continued through the years.
Today, life centers on daily time in the shop.

turning for pleasure, health, and fun; RECENT TURNINGS ARE SHOWN HERE;
Most of our turnings have been gifted to family and friends and
we love to display our turnings in our home, as well.
Like a lot of dedicated turners, I am an old man. And, I am a cancer survivor.
Woodturning has become an obsession because it gives meaning to daily life.
At the outset, this is perfectly clear - I am humbled and grateful for all of the talented and
creative turners out there who have achieved many honors and recognition with their skills.
Many are noted teachers and perform for others with video and workshops and have thus
created an occupation for themselves. I am not one of these as I am home bound.
My greatest concern is that all the free wood upon which I depend does not get ground
into wood chips, or burnt as firewood, before I can get my hands on it.
Upon retirement in 1996, goals were set to build keepsakes for my family and
friends. Between heart bypass and prostate cancer surgeries, custom millwork was produced
for our home. These included traditional moldings, crown moldings, fireplace surround, cabinets
throughout two upper floors, hardwood flooring, plantation shutters, custom oak and ash stairways
and railings. Also created was an oak library in our TV room, utility room cabinets, storage room
cabinets, two redwood decks, and cherry bedroom furniture including an eleven drawer chest-on-chest,
seven drawer lingerie dresser, side table, and built-in bookcases.
For other family members many items of cherry and walnut bedroom furniture were completed including
chest-on-chests, cradles, lingerie dressers and nightstands. Other items included champion
chessboards, an entertainment center, custom moldings, kitchen cabinets,
and a sixteen piece library in cherry for our doctor son's home.
Since 2005 many other projects have been completed for our Littleton, Colorado home, including built-in
book shelves, remodeling of our dining area with added windows and plantation shutters and kitchen
cabinets. Also, we remodeled the main kitchen cabinets, placed a country style sink and made new
counter-tops with hardwood surfaces of oak and cherry.

Now, at age 83, my main focus is devoted to woodturning with a 3 hp. variable Grizzly lathe.
The shop has been modified to accommodate turning tools, including many handmade
cutting tools and inertia sanders, as well as a multitude of turning blanks of several exotics
and locally grown hardwood species.
